I took Mrs. Jaffe’s course about 24 years ago and found the calm breathing she taught to be a gift for life! Taking her classes prepared me for every subsequent birth and made me feel a strong sense of empowerment. Mrs. Jaffe gives so much valuable information on dealing with pregnancy, labor, birth, and other health concerns for women. It made me feel so alive!
Birth is a journey. But it doesn't have to be frightening.

Why learn from Shavy, and not anyone else?
She has seen your birth before
Thirty years of teaching, hundreds of births attended. Very little surprises her, and that calm is contagious.
She finds the real answer
Everyone teaches that labor is about opening up. Shavy teaches the part everyone skips: your baby also has to descend. When labor stalls, she looks for what's standing in the way, position, timing, fluid levels, until she has the real answer.
She tells you the truth, warmly
No promises of a painless birth. Instead: what the pain means, and how to breathe through it rather than fight it.
Her students are never on their own
In her own words: you can text me, you can call me, you can email me. In labor, after the birth, or twenty years down the road.
Torah is woven through it all
Halacha, hashkafa and tefilos accompany every stage of the journey, from the first trimester to the first weeks home.
So what exactly is The Swiss Method?
Breathe with purpose
The goal: one inhalation and one exhalation that last the length of your longest, hardest contraction. More oxygen means the muscle works better and hurts less, so labor stays tolerable and you stay in control.
Prepare with Intention
Understand your baby’s position and the many factors that may affect how comfortably and effectively baby descends through the pelvis. Preparation and troubleshooting are key to a smoother labor and delivery for mom and baby.
Decide with confidence
When something feels off, low fluid, stalled labor, unexplained discomfort, you'll know which questions to ask and how to get real answers before agreeing to anything.
"I don't need you to believe in this method. I need you to do it, as it physically takes the edge off the pain."
Shavy Jaffe
What a class looks like
Practice
Relaxation, breathing and pushing technique, hands-on, often right on the floor with your feet up.
Knowledge
The information and tools you need for labor, delivery, postpartum and nursing, halacha and hashkafa included. You'll understand what's happening and why, so every technique makes sense when the moment comes.
Movement
An exercise program in every session, because movement carries your pregnancy, your labor and your recovery.
- Every session runs a minimum of two hours
One method, the whole journey
We put your baby back at the center of childbirth. We listen to what your baby is telling you at every stage. If you or your baby are experiencing challenges, we work backward to uncover the real cause and explore different ways to address it.

Thanks for stopping by.
That was over three decades and thousands of births ago. What I’ve learned since is simple: birth is a journey for both mother and baby, and it is a journey we can actively influence. You are the one giving birth, not a patient and never a bystander.
“I don’t hide it from you: birth is painful. But pain has a message. If you learn to listen to it and breathe through it, it becomes tolerable, and you stay present for the most miraculous moment of your life.”
Women remember these classes for decades

Shavy Jaffe is one of the most incredible and selfless people I ever met. She has a never-ending wealth of information and is generous with her time to help mothers and babies get the best care. During Corona, when no support person was allowed, she was available by phone at a time when I couldn’t have a support person there. Her selflessness helped me feel empowered with the support and knowledge I needed.

Dearest Mrs. Jaffe,
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Even if I wrote you a thousand pages and pages with the same two words, it would never be enough! Your guidance, time, patience, and devotion to me in my time of need will always be remembered.

Dear Shavy,
Now, when I sit with my baby in hand and marvel at the wonders from Hashem, I must take the time to remember His amazing nissim. It’s not possible to express my feelings of gratitude with the simple words “Thank You.” You showed up just in the right moment when I couldn’t continue anymore. With your calming demeanor, it just made it so much easier. Only Hashem could repay you for what you did.

Dear Shavy,
Thank you so much for the amazing birth education classes you gave over. As well as being thorough + informative, it was empowering. I truly feel that it was one of the reasons I was able to give birth without an epidural B”H (my mantra was, “If I want it, I’ll take it!”). When the nurse told me, “People aren’t usually so smiley at 7 cm,” well, there’s definitely gratitude to you, too. I loved the movement exercises, learning the Swiss Method, all your tips + tricks, + how you had all the time to answer questions + give everything over in a clear way. Hashem should bench you to continue being able to help many women in this wonderful way, iy”H!
No one does research like a mom
The classes are recorded: you get access right after signing up and watch on your own schedule, wherever you are in
the world, at the times that suit you. The Full Bundle also includes a live, personal 1-on-1 session with Shavy, and as her student you can text her, call her, or email her whenever you need her.
If you live near Shavy, she also teaches the course in person in Brooklyn, NY. The in-person course is a separate option, not part of the online bundles: you join one or the other. If that is what you are looking for, call Shavy at (718) 812-0418 to ask about the next group.
Two pillows, a pen and paper, a snack and a drink, and a comfortable spot with room to exercise and lie down. Give
yourself two undisturbed hours per session, and wear something comfortable: a pair of leggings under your skirt and whatever headgear feels right.
The Swiss Method doesn’t distract you from the birth or ask you to tune it out. Labor pain is a muscle at work, not a nerve-ending pain, and distraction doesn’t help a muscle in spasm. Instead, you work with the contraction: breathing that gives the muscle oxygen, positions that help your baby descend. In Shavy’s words, it’s not a psychological method, it’s a physiological one. The Swiss Method gives you real tools that work, and you can use them alongside self-hypnosis if you find it helpful.
Yes. The full bundle is built for first-time mothers and assumes nothing. Every technique is explained in plain language, with the reasoning behind it.
It depends. If you’ve learned the Swiss Method before, the Encore refresher is all you need. If you’re new to the method, you do need the full course, even as an experienced mother, though you can leave out the nursing session if you’ve successfully nursed before. You can always add sessions later.
The opposite. The method comes from Esther Marilus’s book Natural Childbirth The Swiss Way, is endorsed by many
leading Rabbanim, and Shavy has been teaching it for over three decades. Most of her students come through word
of mouth, from mothers, sisters and friends who used it themselves, and some are still using the breathing 24 years later.
Everywhere. The classes are endorsed by many leading Rabbanim, halachic inquiries and tefilos are part of the
curriculum, and hashkafa runs through every lesson, down to the food diary that goes from Sunday to Shabbos.
That’s exactly what the method was built for. Rather than only coaching you through labor as it unfolds, it looks for the reason behind a stall or discomfort, timing, positioning, fluid levels, and gives you concrete ways to respond.
Decisions are a necessary part of motherhood.
Drop a line, and Shavy will get back to you within 48 hours.
